Q3 BLOG POSTS DUE 2.13, 2.23, 3.8, 3.15

POETIC FORMS FLASHCARDS: QUIZLET

backing up your blog: always a good idea

HEALIGAN'S COMMENTS ON Q2 BLOGGING

3 tiers of posting: comment, reflection, analysis

3 tiers of commenting: approval, sharing, responding to judgment.

How am I looking at your blog?

Quality of posts, from—Comment, becomes
Reflection, becomes
Analysis

Quality of texts read: Raw material for posts: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, bio
Quantity of reading-balance short and long
Variety of choice (remember the AP test!)

Quality of writing voice:
Usage, easy flow of language
Individual, unique voice identifying the author (Q3=how to do
it--deliberately)
Consciousness of self as writer: which voice will you choose?
Fit voice to purpose

My Observations

1. Sometimes you have to wait to post. Processing the work is important to strong voice.

2. Merit of the book you write about affects ability to move from comment to analysis.

3. Comment, reflection, analysis applies to your content as well as your voice.

4. Some people comment better than they post—this is good to know as you develop your style.

5. We can use conscious voice as a vehicle to attract readers and allow comment. (Q3 challenge)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AP LIT BLOGS 2011

1. You will create a blog and post 5 times in Q2. You may of course post more than 5 times. Blogging can be addicting. (evidence? I have 3 personal blogs, plus my Goodreads.com page). Your blog design will count as one of the posts. I will judge the design for quality and effort, and will assume that you have envisioned the page as an avatar of your reader-self.

2. You will also be responsible for commenting twice on a classmate's blog during Q2. You must comment on two different classmate's blogs, and if someone has already received 5 comments from others, please choose someone else's blog. If you wish to comment on more than two students' blogs, great.

3. My purpose? To engage your critical response in a regular fashion. I want your "AP brain" in operation 24/7 between now and May 10, 2012.

4. Your purpose? View your blog as a journal of your reading. This should be your objective even as you design your page.

5. I will assign a prompt for your first written post: What do you want from AP Lit? What would give this class meaning for you (beyond the obvious, a score of 5 in May)? What might reading have to do with that (or not, as the case may be)?

6. Just as in Q1, you should complete what is required a week before the end of the quarter: January 6, 2012. Additional parameters for our blogging can be decided as we go. This is an experiment for me as well as for you.
